Conditions and Treatments

Pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. When asked about four common types of pain, respondents of a National Institute of Health Statistics survey indicated that low back pain was the most common (27%), followed by severe headache or migraine pain (15%), neck pain (15%) and facial ache or pain (4%).

Back pain is the leading cause of disability in Americans under 45 years old. More than 26 million Americans between the ages of 20-64 experience frequent back pain.

At The Bluffs Pain Management Group, we believe in taking the time to talk with each patient to pin-point the source of pain. Our goal is to help patients regain their quality of life and we work with each patient to develop a specific pain treatment plan based on their individual needs. Physical Therapy

The use of some type of physical therapy or exercise is integral to almost all forms of back and neck pain treatment. Physical Therapy is designed to complement interventional pain procedures and to promote the most long-term relief possible from medical interventions. Physical therapists play an important role in managing chronic pain by administering treatments that include strengthening and flexibility exercises, manual therapy, posture awareness, and body mechanics instruction. Physical therapists can also help the patient to understand the underlying cause of their pain.

Behavioral Therapy

The Bluffs Pain Management Group believes that the best way to treat persistent pain is to focus not only on the physical causes and symptoms of pain, but its emotional, social and psychological consequences, as well. It always begins with pain as a whole. Behavioral Health is an essential part of our multidisciplinary care. We realize that the stress and mental challenges caused by pain can be as difficult to cope with as pain itself. Our providers possess knowledge and skills specific to the problem of pain and are highly experienced in identifying and treating the unique challenges that a person with pain faces.

While these conditions are the most common that we see, our practice treats other types of pain as well. Please feel free to contact us or call (712) 396-4359 if you’d like to schedule an appointment. You can also click here to request an appointment.
